The first time I ever went to Miami was for a bachelorette party in my early 20s. That experience was far different than the experiences I have now when I visit, but that is what makes Miami so amazing; there is something there for everyone to enjoy!
I love Miami so much because being from Michigan, I crave warm weather, sun and beautiful beaches 9 months out of the year; but the diversity, amazing food and art scene puts the icing on the cake. The vibe is energizing and alive. Clark and I love going to escape the everyday hustle and bustle and really just unplug, connect and relax. It is the perfect 2 hour and 30 min flight to paradise.
This last trip to Miami we took on whim. If you have never done that, I recommend it. It felt very freeing to realize we needed to get away and took action and did it, rather than push it aside. Vacation really can be the best medicine!
We always like to stay on South Beach because we want to stay ON the beach. I need my toes in the sand and salt water 🙂 I love swimming in the ocean and walking the beach in the morning. There are so many amazing hotels to stay. This time we split our time between the Carillon Wellness Resort and the Nobu Hotel.
This was our first time at the Carillon, and we had an amazing stay. Located north of the South Beach hustle and bustle, it feels very secluded and private. It is a wellness resort that offers over 100 workout classes and nutrition seminars a week. A beautiful luxurious spa, 4 swimming pools and cozy lounge chairs along the ocean. The overall energy of the resort is very relaxing. They have an awesome juice/smoothie cafe in the lobby of the hotel that made me a fresh celery juice in the morning 🙂 (won my heart right over). They even have a pilates reformer studio and the instructor was great! (another bonus!) Every room in the resort is a suite (1 or 2 bedrooms available) and they each offer an amazing ocean or city view, separate living room, fully equipped kitchen and spa-like bathroom with premium amenities (non-toxic!).
They have one restaurant on-site, The Strand Bar & Grill which offers delicious dishes made with all seasonal ingredients. We enjoyed breakfast there and Clark took full advantage of their buffett. They also had a wonderful selection of avocado toast, yogurt, oatmeal and tons of fresh fruit for my liking.
We wanted to take advantage of a spa treatment, but we did not have enough time. Next time though!
We spent our time relaxing by the beach enjoying food and cocktails, taking advantage of the workout classes, and visiting the juice bar often. 🙂
After the Carillon we checked into The Nobu Hotel. We have stayed here before and we love it. It shares amenities with the Eden Roc Hotel, but the hotel’s themselves are completely separate. We stayed in a the “Zen Suite” which is spectacular! It is a corner suite featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, wrap around balcony with Ocean views as well as the Intercoastal waterway on the other side. The decor and finishes are beautiful and they have great in-room amenities such as a yoga mat, an oversized separate bathtub and Red Flower Bath Ritual amenities.
The hotel offers 24/7 room service as well as Nobu and Malibu Farm Restaurants on site. You literally do not have to leave if you did not want to. Both restaurants are amazing! The resort has two swimming pools, beautiful beach front with comfortable lounge chairs, a luxury spa and fitness center. The overall energy and vibe is so relaxing.
Our morning ritual is to wake up, relax on the balcony with some juice and coffee and then walk down the beach walkway to the 1 Hotel (another one of our favorites). It is about a 1.5 mile walk along the ocean and then we grab breakfast on the patio at Plnthouse (located on the mezzanine floor of the 1 hotel). It is the perfect start to the day! Plnthouse has the most fresh, delicious food! They also have grab and go so I like to grab some goodies to bring back with me to snack on later.
We also like to walk to Dreamer for Acai bowls, but it is almost a 3 mile walk. So we walk there and uber back 🙂 My favorite way to start the day – a long sunny walk to delicious food!
I typically love going to workout studios when I travel, but when I am in Miami I really enjoy just walking and being outside. Any hotel we are at always offers workout classes and has a great gym too if I feel like I need something more.
After we grab breakfast we walk back, grab chair on the beach and veg out for the afternoon. It is so nice to soak up all that vitamin D.
Around 4 or 5pm we shower up for the evening, watch the sunset and grab dinner. And then we do that on repeat for a few days.
Miami is always a relaxing trip for us (so different that our past experiences ;-)) but it is the best away long weekend.
Here are my recommendations below to stay, eat and relax in Miami!
