02 Jul Why SAFE Beauty care is so Important for our Health
If you would have told me two years ago, one year ago, even 6 months ago that I would be promoting and selling Beautycounter, I would have said no way! Multi-level marketing is really not my thing, and I do not want to get caught up in trying to push products on people, but the truth is, when a product works and is good for your health, how can I NOT promote it on this platform. This platform was specifically created for this purpose – to share health and wellness information and to bring awareness to what we are consuming while offer healthier options. I created this Blog and brand to help people live healthier lives. So here we are, and today I am going to chat about why what we put on our skin is so important for our health, and why I decided to finally try out Beautycounter and why I LOVE it.. The thing is, WE ALL deserves transparency about what we are consuming, not only through the food we eat, but also through what we put on our skin daily.
After I had brain surgery, you all know I was on a MISSION to heal my body. I researched EVERYTHING, from the toxic air we breath, the polluted water we drink, the toxic chemicals in our beauty care, cleaning products, clothing, furniture, food..etc you name it I was researching it. I concluded, there is a ton of junk out there being falsing marketed to us, and I knew I could do WAY better with my choices, and then in turn I was confident it would promote healing within my body. (spoiler alert – I was right!)
There are some things we cannot control, but for those we can, it is our responsibility to not blinding trust what we hear, but to do our own research and make the best decisions for ourselves and loved ones. I could go on and on about all the toxic products out there that most of us use daily and have no idea how toxic they are, but for the sake of time, I am only going to cover beauty care today.
Our health is our biggest asset. Our skin is the largest organ in our body. Did you know that? It’s also part of our microbiome, which means what we put on our skin affects our gut health! It affects everything! We work out, eat healthy, meditate etc, but then cover our bodies in harmful ingredients that cause disease and illness. There is a lack of regulation that needs to change, and Beautycounter is on it!
Here are some facts about the FDA and the approval process products go through to get on the shelves or online:
- They require no premarket review of the safety of cosmetics. Instead, the cosmetics industry is supposed to “self police” through its Cosmetics Ingredients Review Panel. Over the 36 years that this has been in place, the panel has rejected only 11 ingredients. In contrast, the European Union has banned hundreds of chemicals in cosmetics.
- Personal care products are manufactured with over 10,500 unique ingredients, many of which are known carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, known toxins and much more and it is LEGAL!
So basically, if you want to create a skin care product and sell it on-line, go right ahead, there is not much stopping you!
Not to be a cynic, but even when there is a formal approval process, most of what the FDA does approve is garbage, so the fact that there is NO regulation at all is scary. We are really on our own. We MUST do your own research. I am here to help you!
Some common ingredients used in your daily skin care and beauty products:
Formaldehyde – a popular ingredient used as a preservative in cosmetics. A known carcinogen that is also linked to asthma, neurotoxicity, and developmental toxicity. Present where quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3 diol (Bronopol), and several other preservatives are listed. Found in: shampoo, body wash, bubble bath.
Synthetic flavor or fragrance – An engineered scent or flavoring agent that may contain any combination of 3,000-plus stock chemical ingredients, including hormone disruptors and allergens. Fragrance formulas are protected under federal law’s classification of trade secrets and therefore can remain undisclosed. Found in: all types of cosmetics. * This is also why I use doTERRA essential oils instead of perfume or air fresheners! You can read more about that here.
Toluene – A volatile petrochemical solvent that is toxic to the immune system and can cause birth defects. Found in: nail polish. ( I love Sundays and Ten over Ten non-toxic nail polish)

I am sharing this information with you to inform you and to encourage you to make the switch to a healthier option!
So you may ask, why Beautycounter? There are a lot more brands coming out with non-toxic products (thankfully), so why BC? When I learned about Beauty Counter’s mission my heart felt full and I knew it was something I wanted to get behind and support. They want to educate consumers so that they have access to better information. They also want to provide a solution. They hold themselves to a high standard when they create their products. They are dedicated to advocating for legislative change. Their dream is for everyone to have access to safer products! It is a movement and I am honored to be apart of it. Also, I like being able to get all my beauty products from one source. Order it online, it comes to my door. It is so simple!
I have been using their products now for about 3 months and I could not be happier.
I love the shampoo and conditioner, the cleansing balm, the sunscreen, bronzer and the sugar scrub! But everything I have used had exceeded my expectations!
